Practical
Insurance and reimbursement
A large number of people in Denmark are covered for psychology and do not know it. It is worth ten minutes to find out before you pay yourself.
1. Health insurance through work
Many Danish employment contracts include a sundhedsforsikring, and most of those cover psychological treatment — commonly 8 to 12 sessions a year, sometimes more. You usually do not need a referral from a doctor; you contact the insurer, they approve, and they pay us directly.
Ask your HR department, or look for one of these names on your pay slip or benefits portal: Dansk Sundhedssikring, Falck Healthcare, Tryg, PFA, Velliv, Skandia, Topdanmark, Codan, Mølholm.
We are set up directly with Dansk Sundhedssikring, Falck, Tryg and Dansk Krisekorps, and can invoice several others. Tell us the name of your scheme when you book, and bring your case or authorisation number to the first session.
2. Sygeforsikringen «danmark»
A voluntary supplementary health insurance that a large share of the Danish population belongs to. If you are in Group 1, 2 or 5, psychology with a state-authorised psychologist is reimbursed at:
- 300 DKK per session for adults
- 450 DKK per session if you are between 16 and 25
No doctor's referral is needed. There is an annual ceiling — 7.200 DKK for most grounds. We are both authorised, which is the requirement. You pay us the full fee and «danmark» transfers the reimbursement to your NemKonto, usually automatically from the receipt.
If you are new to Denmark and expect to need therapy: membership has a qualifying period before it pays out, so joining now rather than later is the practical advice.
3. After an accident
If your difficulties follow a traffic accident, an accident at work, an assault or a robbery, treatment is often covered — by your employer's workers' compensation insurance, your own accident policy, or a crisis-response scheme such as Falck Healthcare or Dansk Krisekorps. Victims of violent crime may also be able to claim through Erstatningsnævnet.
4. Public subsidy — and why it does not apply here
For certain grounds a GP can issue a referral giving roughly 60% public subsidy. That subsidy only applies with psychologists who hold a ydernummer, an agreement with the public health service. We do not have one. Those places are limited and usually carry waiting lists of several months.
What you get instead: no referral, no waiting list, and a first session next week.
What we need from you
- The name of the insurer and your case or authorisation number, if a scheme is paying
- Otherwise nothing — you pay by card or MobilePay after each session and get a receipt to forward
An insurer receives confirmation that sessions took place. They do not receive your journal, your diagnosis or anything you have said. Nothing goes anywhere without your written consent.
Cancellation
Cancel at least 24 hours before and it costs nothing. Later than that, the session is charged — insurers do not cover missed sessions.
There is no waiting list to join first
Book directly in the calendar, or call if you would rather speak to a person.
